Sounds like mom should no longer be living alone, even with you siblings dropping in on her daily. Sleeping 22 hours a day, having all these health issues at 87, and now not wanting to eat suggests the possibility that end of life times are approaching and a hospice consult is warranted. If hospice is approved, you can hire in home caregivers for mom along with the support team that hospice provides part time to help care for her. Or, you can move her into a managed care facility once an evaluation is undertaken. A good place to start would be w a call to mom's PCP bc s/he can order a hospice evaluation and or steer you in the right direction otherwise.

So sorry you are facing such a difficult time of life in mom's journey. Wishing you the best of luck.

Yes...please get hospice involved pronto. It does sound like her end is nearing and siblings dropping in only is not a safe or reassuring situation for her. Her Dr can write a prescription for hospice which Medicare will pay for , and then the more intense comfort and care she needs and deserves can be put in place.Try to spend as much time as you can when this occurs..as her daughter...she will have other caregivers...but she needs her family ....

Yes, get hospice ASAP! Her organs will start to shut down if no food is eaten. Also, she may not be eating because she cannot taste the food. When my daddy was very ill he would pack on the salt because thats all he could taste. Prayers for you and yours
