She has a pension which covers about half of her LTC which leaves me with covering the rest. I have had to pull money from my retirement account in order to make up the difference. Can I deduct her medical expenses?

You need an accountant to answer this; I believe it's a matter of whether or not she's your dependent, which involves paying for more than half of her expenses, etc.

But the REAL questions is, why are you paying for her care? Does she qualify for Medicaid? If not, why not? Have you talked to a certified eldercare attorney who can advise on a qualified income trust (if her income is above the level for Medicaid)?

You can't receive SSI if you have any other income.
