My mom is in a nursing home laying flat on her back 24-7. It is because that is what she wants. We offer to let her sit in her recliner or wheelchair but she refuses. Are there any beds you can recommend that would make her more comfortable? We currently have her in a hospital be with a remote so she can put her head up or down. We have tired one of those air mattresses and she does not like it. Also, any type of chair/bed combo? Thanks!

My mom spent four years in a nursing home. No resident spent 24/7 flat in a bed. I can’t imagine the bedsores and skin breakdowns that would happen in allowing a person to do such. My mom was completely unable to move on her own at all, yet she was up in a wheelchair daily and turned every few hours while in bed, lots of rotations and repositioning prevented even one bedsore. Is this an issue of depression? Or pain? Seems like something needs addressing other than allowing this 24/7

They do make reclining wheelchairs that she could be put in and taken out of her room for a change of scenery.
And even though your mom prefers to be flat on her back in her bed, I hope and pray that the folks at her nursing facility are coming in every few hours to turn her so she doesn't develop bedsores.

Why don’t you want her to stay in the hospital bed? At least the head and foot move to relieve pressure on her body.

The staff should be turning her whether she likes it or not unless there’s a reason not to.

You could get a wedge to put under her knees.

I’m baffled by most of this and wonder why she’s calling the shots.
