talking to brick wall is about as useful as discussing it with this nurse. She just repeats the same 'concerns' about 'contamination' over and over and over. I told her mom has already endured this painful cath test last month and she's in enough pain and doesn't need anymore pain. What is this nurse's real motives? is she a sadist?

They almost certainly need to run not only a urinalysis, but a C&S; to get what is called a "clean Catch" sadly means catheterization. More sadly it opens your mom up to further infection. Normally there is a thorough cleansing with special cleansing agents so as to ascertain the area is free of fecal matter. Then the patient is instructed to pass a bit of urine, then stop, Then to hold cup and pass more urine. This is almost impossible for our elders to do.

This catheterization may be uncomfortable but should not be "painful". If you are unwilling to have this done let her know and she will let the doc know that a clean catch isn't possible. To just check bacteria type to best of ability. They normally get e coli. They are attempting to see if there is something else. They can still test.

Understandably you are upset, but as an RN let me assure you that NO RN likes to do catheterization. Despite best practice and care she understands her procedure is uncomfortable and humiliating and is opening her patient to further contamination. This procedure takes her time and takes the heart right out of her. So no, unlikely she is a sadist. She is following MD orders.

This same MD (dr killpatient) put on freaking Cipro last month for UTI that wreaked her immune system where she subsequently caught Covid for the first time. Incompetence and/or sadism, it doesn't matter the effects are the same: a harmed patient.
Why would any competent MD ever put an 87 y.o. 25lbs underweight elderly woman on Cipro?

Retired nurse here . The nurse does not decide the method of collection . The doctor ordered Urine for C&S via catheterization . She is following doctor’s orders.

The nurse has no motives , nor is she a sadist .

As said, hard to get a clean catch with a hat. When they push to pee sometimes they do #2 too. Then the test is contaminated.

I was there when my Mom got catherized. First time there was a problem. Second time they did it a little differently with a syringe type thing. The urine was brown. They don't void completely so the infection says there.
