My wife and Ihave lived her father for 4 years now when we first came to colorado he could get around okay he has polio in his left side he doesn,t get around very well now because his knee can,t handle the stress of him being overweight the doctor took some tests on the knee but they are not going todo anything right now he needs to be in a nursing home where he can be waited on for the care he needs he can,t shower,make his own food or evn get up to urinate he uses a plastic urinal he can get up if he has to thehouse we live in is old and not elderly friendly how do we get him to go into a facility

Danny, see if your father-in-law can qualify for Medicaid [this is different from Medicare].

Medicaid is use to help elders who cannot afford to pay for a nursing home. Call your State Medicaid office and see what Dad needs to do and what programs are available [each State Medicaid is different].

Start going on tours of nearby facilities. Usually they include a free lunch. They will also help sort out the financial end .
