Find Care & Housing
Good answer vstefans and Jeannegibbs. I wish I'd known about Plak-Vac. I ofen used the green sponge on a stick to gently brush my Mom's teeth. Unfortunately, I could never get those paid for by insurance, so I usually horded them whenever she had a hospitalization or inpatient rehab.

There are suction toothbrushes made just for this - Plak-Vac and similar. Hope that will help, and sometimes a medication adjustment can make things better too. Some drugs, like antipsycotics, will make PD worse and either lowering or stopping those if possible, or adding a little Cogentin if not, will make a positive difference too.

When my husband was on hospice, the nurse brought a package of oral cleaning swabs (like little sponges on a handle) to clean the teeth and mouth. I wonder if that would help you?

Do you think that your mother might be ready for hospice care? They can come up with ways to keep her comfortable as her capabilities decline.
