If these denture problems are left undone what are the effects? So if an elder person has been skipping meals to the point of energy loss due to their dentures hurting. How can I as a carer convince them/encourage them to get new ones when they believe that they aren't allowed/eligible to get new ones. I want to tell them what the bad side-effects/consequences are of not eating and not getting new ones would have on him. What can I do to make sure he continues to eat healthy?
In the meantime, Talk to your local senior center or aging services and see if there is a local dentist or oral surgeon who will examine elders for free or offer sliding scale services or take Medicare to evaluate his dentures or re-fitting. Then make an appt and see that he goes for an evaluation.
So the elder doesn't think they can afford to pay for new dentures? You could check with your county officials or city to see if there are any low-cost dental services for seniors. Where I live, there's a van that goes around to treat seniors' dental needs.
