I've spent about 1 1/2 years trying to find a replacement for the Secret Treasures knit snap-front duster robes that my mother wore when she moved in with us; this brand seems to have been discontinued.

The only replacement I've found is Adonna brand from JC Penney. Mom's upper arms are very large, but she's a short person. We've had to buy XL duster robes, Adonna brand from JC Penney, which are too big around - but still the sleeves will barely shove up to get out of the way of her blood pressure cuff or to simply be loose enough to wear comfortably.

Are there modest clothing lines made for elderly women who have, typically, a lot of flab on the undersides of their upper arms? She's staining her gowns nearly daily now, and we really need a larger supply of comfortable, well-fitting ones. And she's down to 3 blouses that she can wear out in public, due to the same issue of sleeve size.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Try "Women's sizes" which start at 1X and generally go to 3 or 4 X.

They seem not to be sized so long proportionally and accommodate fleshy arms.

Oops! Not used to asking questions here; this was my response to you, BarbBrooklyn:

I didn't realize that plus sizes aren't necessarily a lot longer, so now there are more options to check out. I may have already found a polyester duster robe that will work, on the Amerimark website, thanks to your suggestion. Will check it out with Mom. I appreciate the links you provided. Thanks again! I've been so frustrated about this for so long, and I knew there must be clothing out there that would work for Mom, but I just wasn't finding it.

Similar situation for my mother who is overweight with flab and under 5 feet in height. I suggest petite line of clothing for women under 5'4" which offer extra large, etc. to accommodate them. Not easy to find, but QVC offers some nice clothing in this category as well as Haband (less expensive).

Thanks for responding. I glanced at QVC and Haband online, and it looks like there might be some possibilities. I'll check them out more thoroughly when I get some free time. Wish I'd posted about this a long time ago! Thanks again.

Yep, those Genes. Mom had the same problem. Even when she got down to 135 from 165, her arms were still the same. The duster Barb posted is exactly what I got for Mom.

My suggestion would be to try and find things with a handkerchief sleeve or that ruffle sleeve. They seem to be coming back.

Now, I am not a sewer, maybe someone else is. But maybe you can open up the sewed seam under the arm and put a panel in to widen the seam. It will be under her arm and not noticeable.

Thanks; I'll check out different styles of sleeves. I'd thought about opening up the under-arm seams and zigzag stitching their edges; but my sewing machine is old and doesn't work well with knit fabrics, so I don't know whether the fabric would end up unraveling, though...

Try EBay or Etsy online for the brand that you like. They sometimes even have “NWT” (new with tags) discontinued items. Also they will be delivered right to your door.

Walmart in my town still sells Secret Treasures in plus sizes. MY DIL bought some recently for a woman she knows that has large arms.
