Is there a service that can pick up an elderly parent and take them to their doctor appointment? Parent is on oxygen, but fairly mobile. Houston area. I had to call a cab for this. She needs a wheelchair and assistance. Can walk some, but needs assistance.

You can try calling your local associations. If you have an Area Agency on Aging servicing your area, they may be able to give you names of volunteers. Few communities offer this service but I'm sure some do. Check with local churches, too. Some of them may have volunteers. Good luck,
Carol

We live in a small Midwestern community and we were able to locate a Transportation company that only charges my MIL $6 Round Trip (40 mi round trip) to be picked up (using a wheelchair lift) and brought back home.

She is able to walk into the appointment and out again. I think if she needed assistance, someone would have to go with her because the driver isn't allowed to assist her in and out of the building.

I called our Area Agency on Aging and got their number. They are not non profit - but they must be subsidized in some way because $6 wouldn't even cover gas. So far, it is working out great. She has used the van twice. She isn't able to climb into the van - so they used the transport chair and the lift for her.
