It is suppose to be cheaper than most assisted living facility....last figure was $3100 per month. I know it is catholic & has mass every day in their chapel. thanks
Just came from visiting 2 AL's which were on my list to investigate. One was small only 28 residents but felt too crowded & cluttered. Charged $3800/mo plus another $325 & on up for medication administration,.etc. The other about 65 residents but felt much larger, more open spaces, charged $3600 plus $285 medication admin, BUT their packet of information contained a strangely worded leaflet "Informed Choice" about how there would not be any continuous supervision, residents could fall just as in their own private home, there's no 24 hr nurse (even though the hallway connects to a nursing home I guess they never cross over?). I got the impression that they were only offering senior independent living, not assisted living. My mom just needs food, medication reminders, and some housekeeping, and she also uses a walker. The tour director seemed guarded about whether my mom would be appropriately placed there. Well, the only logical other place would be a full-scale nursing home! At twice the cost! So I am scratching my head over tbis.....need to find an ALF which knows it actually has to provide "assistance".
Another South Jersian. I live 45 min. south of u. I agree with the responses. A lot depends on what the parents needs are. I'm really surprised that CHill runs the same as down here. The best thing u can do is to talk to someone at the facility and take a tour. I do know that u cannot use a prescription plan at these places. They have pharmacys they r affilliated with. So ur parent will be paying full price for meds.
Forgot to say, this facility is called THE MANOR at ST MARY"S secure affordable & serene living for healthy active seniors.add this to comment to malloryg84.
Thank you malloryg8r...you are right ..upon reading the $3113 monthly there is $180 for medication monitoring ...$75 laundry optional...$25 telephone flat rate....also there isa list of 28 services & amenities included in monthly fee such as ptivate room & bath, all utilities included,24 hr. nursing personnel,3 meals a day, wkly maid service, wkly linen service, free washers& dryers, chapel with daily mass & rosary,barber/beauty shop.& many more services. It isoperated by Diocese of Camden & Adminisistrated by the Little Sisters of the Immaculate Conception....am still looking for any one with inside info such as ratings etc. as it sounds to good to be true. thanks again malloryg8r
I do not know anything about that AL, but generally, the monthly rent does not cover some pretty big items -- like medication set up, medication administration (a fee separate from the setups, usually tiered by #, frequency, and type of medications), mobility assistance, bathing, housekeeping beyond 30 mins/week, laundry beyond one set of sheets/towels, or even all meals. The AL'S I have looked into all.had a different "menu" of additional services....and I get a headache every time I try to compare, and moreover, try to anticipate what services my mom.might need. What I'm saying is, even though the $3100/mo rent might seem reasonable, most residents there are actually paying !4800. And the AL down the road which has a base rent of $3900 might only have typical actual $4200 by most residents. It all depends on how they structure their "menu of services. Also all those costs are going to increase each year 3-5% and the menu could change too, or the facility could be sold and new mgmt does things differently. If this one is associated with a non-profit then it has more stability I suspect. Wish it were easy to compare AL, bbut I cannot find any easy way to do so.
