Together with my family we care for my mom who is in later stages of dementia. She has recently begun clenching her mouth shut and is unwilling to eat anything. At one point I noticed online a haberman feeder that has a straw with a plunger that I can plunge a teaspoon of puréed food into her mouth. I cannot seem to find it anywhere! Any tips?

Do not force feed her. They won't eat because the organs are shutting down and cannot process food. Force feeding will cause tremendous pain. Get her evaluated for hospice.

If she is refusing to take food in her mouth, I wouldn't trust that her swallowing is working correctly and you could end up choking her with food or liquids. Please get expert input here from her doctors and don't assume that if you get something in her mouth that also means she can swallow it without injury.

Ask yourself this. WHY must you continue to feed her if she does not want it?

Allow her the dignity of choice.
