My mother had a stroke 2 years ago and is no longer able to adequately care for herself in her own home. After 2 weeks in my home, I realized how difficult it was going to be for me to care for her AND my husband who has Lewey Bodies Dementia, so I began to look into local nursing homes. The first place I toured was more of an Assisted Living situation and I didn't feel there was enough actual nursing care available. The 2nd one was terrible & there was no way I was going to place my mother there. The 3rd one was a "possible", although there was some issues with that one, too. She is currently in hospital, having fallen and broken her foot. At this point, it appears that the only way I can prevent a nursing home and/or the state from ending up with her small savings and her home (which is paid for) is to bring her back home with me. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to navigate through all the red tape and rules regarding medicare and/or Medicaid services. Which way do I go with all this?
Medicaid will not take the house; they will place a lien on it which must be satisfied when she passes.
