Husband has always been lazy but will say that it has been my fault as I never made him do anything! Now though, he gets up at lunchtime and sits in the armchair watching tv until he fancies going to bed. He tells me he can’t even remember stuff like, how to wash up, operate a hoover, put the rubbish out, not anything. However, he will get himself food in between his cooked meals and can always manage to tell me what I’m doing wrong, whatever I’m doing.

Is this him pulling a fast one or genuine? Even his specialist can’t give me a straight answer.

thanks

There is likely to be more going on than this aphasia, as that is merely word searching. And apparently he is doing OK with THAT, as he just told you "It's your own fault; you never required me to do anything".
Now we are down to what else is wrong. You are correct. At this point it is going to be difficult for an MD to give you a good answer. Reason? That he cannot speak well. This complicates all the neuro-psych exams. MRIs are of limited use in the diagnosis of dementia as they show white matter, grey matter changes, small strokes and etc at time, vascular changes, but does not show certain types of dementia.
Your husband is saying he is having memory issues. That isn't the aphasia.
So the short answer is much the same as the MDs. We cannot know. Anything we say is guesswork.
Sure do wish you both the best.
