Mom just got her greencard and will not qualify for Medicaid/Medicare and in the meantime, we are spending a LOT every month on her private insurance. She's 85 and has dementia and diabates. Is there any way to get cheaper private insurance?

Find Care & Housing
It depends on your state. Health insurance doesn’t cross state lines necessarily. You can consult a broker to help you find something cheap that covers what she needs.

You can see if she qualifies for what is now called Market Place insurance,(used to be Obama Care). Your insurance monthly premium is based off of your mom's monthly income. I do not know how it works if she has no monthly income, but might be worth looking into. Good luck.

Your Mom will never qualify for Medicare because she didn't pay into it. I think its 5 years before she would qualify for Medicaid.

Maybe you can find something with basic coverage.
